I’m James Clague, founder and funds manager at Pacific Wealth Creators.
For 18 years we’ve been preserving and growing the wealth of our clients - high net worth individuals in New Zealand and overseas.
Ours is a boutique firm. We think and act independently and true to my value investment approach, as the key decision-maker, I do all the research and security analysis. I am supported by a strong team including Nigel Smith, taxation specialist.
For me, investing is a passion.
Over the years I’ve studied finance at Massey University in Auckland and read widely in the field of investing, particularly in value investing. Value investing is a time-tested and logical approach to investing that isn’t taught in most universities. It produces good returns with the added benefit that it also appeals to investors who care where they invest their money.
I gained a global perspective while working for Financial Management Limited in London, a boutique private client wealth management business that managed the wealth and business assets of a select group of clients. This experience reinforced what I wanted to do in life - pursue my passion.
Pacific Wealth Creators is very much a reflection of my own beliefs and values.
Act with integrity. Walk the same path as clients - invest only in companies I’d be prepared to invest in myself.
Be transparent and open with clients. Be discreet, respect privacy and maintain confidentiality.
Very much a ‘people person’, I particularly value the relationships I have with clients, some of whom have been with us since we started out. Being smaller, there tends to be much more one-on-one contact and I’m always just a phone call away if clients wish to discuss their investments.
I am also active in my community. I have been treasurer and past president of the New Zealand Scandinavian Business Association Inc. and am a member of the Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise.
‘Giving back’ is important to Pacific Wealth Creators. We have two charities we support - New Zealand Riding for the Disabled and Cambodian Children’s Trust. They have been carefully selected for the great work they’re doing and the impact they’re making.
